Synopsis:
Testing: The Journey from Ad Hoc to a Center of Excellence
What happens when the company that has engaged you as some kind of process expert has no clue how to test its applications & systems consistently or thoroughly? Where do you start? Where do you lead them, with what best practices, tools, technologies? This will be a little personal journey through this rocky landscape, with guideposts, and, hopefully, some helpful tips and tools.
1st decade: Programmer, software & systems architect (ICL [UK], Digital Equipment Corp [US]) - specialties: language assemblers; operating systems.
2nd. decade: project manager, development manager, QA & Release Manager (Operating Systems, all). 3rd decade: software process & technology lead for DEC. 4th decade: went to the 'dark side' - software quality & process lead for JPMorgan, then BofA, business process re-engineering (Six Sigma). 5th decade: good God, enough already - finally reached a state of 'bliss': independent, freelance consultant at CIT - messing in everything from designing their testing process, helping re-design the whole SDLC, Project & Portfolio Management tool implementation, Agile implementation...way too much fun!

Synopsis:
Does Agile Empower the Knowledge Worker?
In
the information technology industry, decisions impacting the design,
construction and implementation of projects were solely the realm of
architects and project managers. These decisions would be made and
locked down at the outset of the project and tasked to subsequent
business analysts, developers and quality assurance personnel to define,
construct and test, respectively. In Agile, the entire team is brought
together and stays together throughout the life cycle of the project.
While Agile specialists will point to increases in quality and time to
market, I will present to you how the project members themselves advance
and increase their value to the organization.
In this session we will cover how early and consistent input from all disciplines improves:
1. Knowledge workers’ self-efficacy and organizational buy-in.
2. Overall quality of the final application’s solution.
3. Improved morale and shared responsibility.
4. Increased engagement, camaraderie and dedication to project success.
Darren Drake is a
native of New Milford, NJ, where he served 4 years on the New Milford
Board of Education, most recently as President. He completed his
undergraduate degree at Rutgers University in New Brunswick with
concentrations in Political Science and Psychology. After working
several years for the Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly, Darren
opted to change careers and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University,
where he earned his Masters degree in Business Administration with a
concentration in Management Information Systems. In addition to his
Academic degrees, Darren is a Certified Associate Project Manager and
Certified Scrum Master. Currently he is employed by Fiserv Inc., where
he acts as a Scrum Master for projects across several different product
lines.

An Agile Throwdown: Munich Germany Takes On The Columbus Agile Benchmark Study
Agile has not only gone mainstream, it’s gone global. Data patterns on Agile team performance on time-to-market and quality have been emerging over the last decade from research by QSM Associates. Results have been published in research reports, books and articles around the world.
In 2012 Columbus, Ohio participated in the first ever “Agile vs. the World” study. Data patterns revealed schedule performance that was 31% faster than industry norms. More astonishing was the fact that defect levels were 75% lower than industry norms.
Enter Munich Germany. At their OOP 2013 conference, the Columbus results were presented to a European audience. The result was an Agile Throwdown; German companies decided to participate in a QSM study of their own to challenge Columbus.
Who’s been chopped? Come join us for an inside look at data patterns for both Munich and Columbus, illustrated side by side. The results might surprise you. You will see how both cities compared against the QSM worldworld database of 12,000 completed projects. And finally, we will discuss what future might lie ahead.
