Synopsis:

Passion: What Software Teams and Executive Leadership Might Learn About Creating Lasting Change from ... Eco-pirates

What can software teams and their leadership learn from the passion and self-organizing attributes of environmental activists and "eco-pirates" like those featured in the Animal Planet TV series, "Whale Wars"? Off the coast of Taiji Japan, free, migrating dolphins are ambushed at sea and driven by a fleet of boats to a once secret cove, where they're captured for the theme park industry and slaughtered for food. This is featured in the Oscar-winning documentary, "The Cove." Join Michael Mah as he shares his travels with Sea Shepherd which is committed to bringing the world's attention to stop this practice. Hear how environmental conservation teams 1) channel a powerful sense of purpose, 2) practice leadership, 3) use social media, 4) create transparency, 5) build trust, and 6) use metrics and data to command the world's attention. Hear Michael's take on what passionate teams muster to move a needle towards a "tipping point," and lessons that your software teams can learn from activist teams in the global environmental conservation movement to bring the quality of their work to new heights.
