Abstract:

Risk IT is a new management framework from ISACA, the international IT professional organization that developed the COBIT IT control framework. Risk IT is a scenario-based, event-driven framework that features an illustrative business process model and benchmarking tools. It was developed to address the growing market attention of IT risk management and to raise awareness of its essential role in enterprise governance. Its purpose is to fill the gap between detailed frameworks that cover service management, security, project management, etc., and broad enterprise risk management frameworks such as COSO ERM, ISO31000, AS/NZS 4360, and ARMS. Risk IT is expected to become the de facto worldwide standard for IT risk management. It is likely be as significant for IT risk management as the COBIT framework has been for IT controls. Leading organizations have already begun harmonizing their IT risk management programs with Risk IT to be seen by regulators and auditors as better conforming to leading practice and industry standards.

The presenter, Laurence J Best, served as an Expert Reviewer during development of the Risk IT framework.  The presentation will address the major features of the Risk IT framework and will provide general guidelines for implementing an IT risk and compliance program that leverages the advanced IT risk management practices of Risk IT.

Abstract:
The CERT Resiliency Management Model (RMM) is a process improvement model for managing operational resiliency. It promotes the convergence of security, business continuity, and IT operations activities as a means to activity direct, control, and manage operational resiliency and risk. The model establishes an organization’s resiliency engineering process: a collection of essential activities that an organization performs to ensure that its important assets—people, information, technology, and facilities—stay productive in supporting the ongoing operation of the business. Through improvement and institutionalization of the resiliency process, the organization is better able to sustain the activities on which its continued operation depends, particularly in times of stress. RMM provides a foundation from which an organization can measure its current process capability, set improvement targets, and establish plans to close identified gaps.

RMM builds on the Software Engineering Institute’s successful history of developing and deploying process improvement models such as the CMMI combined with CERT’s vast expertise in the field of security. The predecessor of RMM was the CERT® Resiliency Engineering Framework (REF). For more information, please visit the RMM website at www.cert.org/resiliency.

This presentation will provide an introduction to RMM, including information about how and why the model was developed, details about the structure and content of the model, and suggestions for how organizations can effectively use the model. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
