Synopsis:

Enable Your Workers … and You’ll Be Amazed At What They Can Do

Do you know anyone who spends time during the workday fighting obstacles that get in the way of them doing their jobs? It could be processes that aren’t optimized, poor tools, team members who aren’t right for the job, managers who are reminiscent of the pointed-hair boss on Dilbert, or a host of other reasons. Solving that is going to be the focus of our April 18th meeting.

It’s been about 12 years since Bob Jarvis last presented at NY SPIN (Experiences Combining Extreme Programming (XP) with Six Sigma and CMMI), which he gave several months before he moved to Delaware, and we’re glad to have him back.

This time, he will be discussing something else which he’s passionate about – unlocking the potential of workers by removing the obstacles that get in the way of them doing their best work. Clearly this is partially a process issue, but there are several other key dimensions that also need to be addressed.

In this interactive session, Bob will provide a high-level walk-through of a framework to identify the real symptoms, an approach to presenting the results to management so they “get it,” and an implementation cycle to fix the root causes. For those who want to learn more, the details are available on his blog.

 Biography:

Bob Jarvis has broad experience in quality improvement efforts, from his time in the U.S. Air Force, to executive positions in national consulting firms, his work as Chief Quality Officer at Instinet, his experience as a Master Black Belt at JP Morgan Chase, and his role as VP Quality Assurance at GSI Commerce (now eBay Enterprise). Most recently, Bob founded Quality Enablement LLC, established to help organizations, from senior management to individual contributors, identify and remove barriers to quality; and he is the author of the blog, “A Better Workplace …”
