 Synopsis:

Changes to the SCAMPI Methodology and How to Prepare for a SCAMPI Appraisal

The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) ® is a process improvement approach that provides guidance for best practices in a development environment.  It is a collection of best practices that help organizations improve their processes. The CMMI model has been developed by product teams with members from industry, government, and the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of Carnegie Mellon University. The CMMI model can be used to guide process improvement in projects, divisions, or entire organizations.

The Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) is a methodology that has been designed to provide benchmark-quality ratings relative to Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) models. SCAMPI appraisals are used to identify the strength and weakness of current processes and development related risks, and to determine capability and maturity level rating against the requirements of the CMMI model.

The organizations that have been working to improve their software/systems development and project management practices based on the CMMI for Development Model have learned that both the CMMI for Development model and the SCAMPI Appraisal Method have been updated. While the changes to the CMMI for Development Model have been minimal, the SCAMPI Appraisal Method has seen major changes. This presentation will address the  CMMI model and SCAMPI Method changes and answer questions on factors to consider when making the decision to go through a SCAMPI appraisal and how to prepare for it.
